Kelly Shire’s essays and creative nonfiction have appeared in Brevity, Under the Gum Tree, Entropy, and several other journals and online projects. She has contributed essays about music to The Rolling Stone 500 online project, and to “March Xness,” an annual themed essay tournament created by editor Ander Monson. (Most recently, she wrote about Motley Crue’s cover of The Beatles’ “Helter Skelter.”) Her short fiction is included in the anthology “Palm Springs Noir” the latest title in the popular crime series, published by Akashic Books in 2021.
Born and raised in Southern California, Kelly holds an MFA from Cal State Long Beach, and lives with her family in Temecula, CA. Recently, she was awarded two writing residencies by Writing By Writers and Vashon Island Arts, where she plans to work on completing a memoir-in-essays collection about her Mexican-American family, road trips, and music.
